How to apostille a notarized document.

For a notarized document, the apostille certifies the notary — so the notarization itself has to be complete. It must be signed before a Florida-commissioned notary, in person or online, with a full notarial certificate in English: State of Florida and county, the type of act, the date, the signer's name and how they were identified, and the notary's signature and seal. Powers of attorney, affidavits, consent letters and translations all follow this rule.

A stamp and signature with no certificate wording is rejected, and so are notarized copies of vital or public records — those need a certified copy from the issuing office instead. Documents notarized in another state are apostilled by that state. Not signed yet? Add online notarization to your order: $40 for the first document ($10 notarization fee + $30 technology platform fee), $20 each additional.

Not sure about yours? Send a photo when you order and we check it before anything is filed. What the certificate must contain →

Signing in person? Send us the notarized original, not a scan: the apostille is a separate certificate attached to the paper itself, so the paper you mail is the paper that goes abroad. Tell us the destination country when you order — it decides whether Florida issues an apostille or, for countries outside the Hague Convention, an authentication certificate.

Ordering several documents — for a family move, a citizenship file or an estate? They travel together in one envelope, and a photo of each one before you ship lets us flag a problem while it's still easy to fix.

Notarized document apostille, step by step.

1. Use the right notarial certificate. A jurat for affidavits and sworn statements; an individual acknowledgment for powers of attorney and consent letters; a representative acknowledgment for documents signed for a company or trust.

2. Sign before a Florida notary. In person, or online with a Florida online notary. The body of the document can be in any language; the notarial certificate must be in English.

3. Check the certificate. Venue, type of act, presence box, date, names, ID, signature and seal — all complete. Copies of vital records and public records can't be notarized into apostille-ready documents; order certified copies instead.

4. Send it to us. We verify the notary's commission, file it in person and return it in 5–7 business days.

What we apostille after notarization.

These are the most common notarized documents our customers apostille for use abroad.

Power of Attorney — Foreign Real Estate

Buying property in Mexico, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Panama, Brazil, Italy, Portugal, or Spain? Closings require an apostilled, notarized power of attorney naming a local attorney to sign at the foreign closing.

Power of Attorney — Foreign Legal Matters

Handling an estate, lawsuit, divorce, or other legal matter in another country? A Florida-notarized, apostilled POA authorizes a foreign attorney to act on your behalf.

Affidavits for Foreign Courts

Sworn affidavits and declarations submitted to foreign courts (custody disputes, civil litigation, immigration proceedings) must be apostilled to be admitted as evidence.

Single-Status Letters for Foreign Marriage

Most foreign governments require a notarized affidavit affirming you're unmarried (or divorced) and free to marry. We notarize and apostille these regularly for Florida couples planning destination weddings.

Corporate Resolutions & Authorizations

Florida corporations and LLCs opening foreign subsidiaries, foreign bank accounts, or qualifying to do business abroad need apostilled notarized resolutions authorizing the foreign activity.

Translation Affidavits

Sworn translator affidavits (used when a translated document accompanies the original) are often notarized in Florida and apostilled for foreign court or agency submission. Call about translation + apostille →

Common questions.

Any document notarized by a Florida-commissioned notary — powers of attorney, affidavits, sworn declarations, single-status letters, corporate resolutions, articles of incorporation, certifications, translation affidavits, and any other private document where a Florida notary acknowledged a signature or administered an oath in person.
Yes. Add online notarization to your order and sign by video from anywhere — $40 for the first document ($10 notary fee + $30 platform fee), $20 each additional. You can also sign in person by appointment at one of our five appointment offices. Either way, the notarized document goes straight into your apostille order.
Yes — when the notary is a Florida-commissioned online notary. The notarized electronic document is printed and certified by the notary as a true copy, and that paper document is what the state apostilles. We offer this as an add-on to your order: online notarization, $40 for the first document ($10 notarization fee + $30 technology platform fee), $20 each additional.
Yes — the body of the document can be in any language, as long as the notarial certificate is in English (or bilingual English-and-the-foreign-language). The apostille certifies the notary's signature and commission, not the content of the document.
Yes. Online: add online notarization to your apostille order and sign by video. In person: bring the unsigned document to your appointment. Either way the notarized document goes straight to the Florida Department of State.
The notarization is invalid and FL DOS will reject the apostille. We verify every notary's commission status against the Florida Secretary of State database before submitting. If we catch an expired commission, we'll flag it and we can re-notarize for you (in-person customers only).
The Department of State charges $10 per notarized document. Our service is $220 all-in — state fee, commission check, in-person filing and U.S. return shipping — $380 for two and $160 each for three or more. Online notarization, if you need it, is $40 for the first document.
Mailed to the Department of State yourself, about five to seven weeks. With us, 5–7 business days from the day we receive the notarized document. Online notarization can usually be done the same day you order.
