How a Port Charlotte apostille works.

There is no state apostille counter in Port Charlotte or anywhere else in Charlotte County — only the Florida Department of State in Tallahassee issues them. We hand-carry every Port Charlotte order there and get it back to you in five to seven business days, instead of the five to seven weeks a mailed-in request usually takes.

Most Port Charlotte orders start with a Charlotte County record: birth and death certificates from the Florida Department of Health in Charlotte County, and marriage licenses, divorce decrees and court records from the Charlotte County Clerk of the Circuit Court & County Comptroller. Anything signed in front of a Florida notary — a power of attorney, an affidavit, a single-status letter, a translation — can be apostilled as well.

Prefer to hand your documents to a person? Our nearest appointment office is Tampa, Monday–Friday by appointment.

What to send: the original certified copy or notarized document — the apostille is attached to the paper itself, so a scan won't work — and the name of the country where it will be used. That country decides whether Florida issues an apostille or, outside the Hague Convention, an authentication certificate.

Pricing is the same from Port Charlotte as from anywhere in Florida: $220 per document, $380 for two and $160 each from the third, with the state fee and U.S. return shipping included. Documents for the same country travel together in one envelope; international return is $100 flat per order.

What Port Charlotte customers apostille most.

Canada & retiring abroad

Canada has accepted apostilles since January 2024, which simplified paperwork for snowbirds and dual citizens. Portugal, Spain and Costa Rica residency files need apostilled vital records too.

Property closings abroad

Port Charlotte owners selling or buying overseas send an apostilled power of attorney so someone else can sign at the closing. We can notarize it online first.

Work visas abroad

Diplomas, marriage certificates and FDLE background checks for work permits in the UAE, Qatar, Spain, Germany and South Korea.

Common questions.

Not a state one. Florida apostilles are issued only by the Florida Department of State in Tallahassee, so no office in Charlotte County can issue one. The closest place to meet us is our Tampa office at 2202 N Westshore Blvd, Ste 2275E, by appointment Monday–Friday. Or order online and skip the drive.
Birth and death certificates: the Florida Department of Health in Charlotte County, the Florida Bureau of Vital Statistics in Jacksonville, or VitalChek — the state fee for these is $10. Marriage licenses, divorce decrees, court records and deeds: the Charlotte County Clerk of the Circuit Court & County Comptroller — $20 state fee for a clerk-certified copy, or $10 for a marriage certificate ordered from Vital Statistics. Both fees are included in our $220. We don't accept vital records certified before 2014: the signature on file at the Department of State must be the current registrar's, so an older copy needs to be re-ordered first.
$220 per document, state fee and U.S. return shipping included — the same online or by appointment. Full cost breakdown →
